Posa Newsletter
Hola amigos,
I hope you’ve been finding ways to appreciate this change in season. Spring is here, and with it, sporadic warm days. We’ve enjoyed impromptu visits to local parks after work and playing with rocks and sticks by the lake. These simple outings with no agenda were so special and much needed.
New with me
I got my first tattoo last month. It says Survivor just below my collarbone. I’ve been wanting to get it for a while and needed to wait until a certain point post-chemo, where I wasn’t super high risk of infection. And then there was the logistical “finding time” part of this endeavor. I am so happy to finally have it done! Also, I thought it would be much worse! Maybe my pain threshold went up after having a baby and fighting cancer. I would say a charley horse hurts more!
But I digress. When I first showed my tattoo to our son, he asked what it read, and I told him, “Mami es fuerte” (mommy is strong). Now he tugs on my shirt, looking at it, and with the sweetest smile on his face says, “Mami es fuerte.” I am strong because of him.
In my personal life, I have been reflecting a lot on life post-cancer and wrote a new blog post on survivorship and what that looks like for me. I’ll share it here in case you or someone you know is interested. Silver Linings | Survivorship
On my mind
For some time now, I’ve been thinking a lot about regulating my nervous system and the different ways I can support that. Even the little nugget workouts I sprinkle throughout the day revolve around this idea. I recently came across a reel by @body_knows_ about co-regulation, the idea that we don’t always have to regulate alone, that it’s actually part of our biology, something we first experience in infancy through love and care. This idea is completely new to me, but it makes perfect sense!
I felt that sense of co-regulation just last weekend, during an intimate gathering of women with shared experiences and genuine care and understanding for one another. It was one of those moments that filled my heart in a way I didn’t know I needed. I hope you have people in your life with whom you can co-regulate and feel that kind of mutual support.
Journal focus
March has come to a close, and I am slowly working through my end-of-month items (March reflections, goals check-in, memorable moments, and photo highlights).
This month, however, is a little different because it also marks the close of the first quarter goals.
So, let’s talk about quarterly goals.
As we wrap up Q1, you might notice observations or lessons that shape how you approach the next few months. Maybe the progress bar never reached 100%. Maybe the needle never moved.
Wherever you find yourself, consider these next steps:
- Continue unfinished goals in the second quarter
- Break goals down into smaller, more manageable steps
- Drop them all together
- Table them for another season in your life
The takeaway: your goals do not need to be at 100% complete to represent meaningful progress. Unfinished goals are not failure, probably just not the right time or fit. These pages are intended to bring you compassionate self-awareness.
Like every page in your Everyday Bullet Journal, the goals section is a suggestion. An offering. You don’t have to set any goals if it’s not right at this moment. Repurpose those pages, or even glue them together, and carry on!
None of my goals reached full completion. But one of them (to finish the five books I started reading last year) reached 60%. That feels huge! I realize now that the real underlying goal was to simply read more, and I absolutely did.
If you choose to set goals for Q2, here are two things to keep in mind:
- Check in with your intentions. Do your goals support and align with them?
- Consider the season. Some things just make more sense at certain times of year. What do the next three months look like for you? Are there major changes or shifts in your life that might impact your capacity? Will your life allow for the natural flow toward this goal? Set yourself up for success!
Whatever you decide to do, I fully support you!
New product alert!
I am so excited to share that Posa Stationery is officially in production!
This month, we are introducing a letter-writing set featuring a collection of nine sheets, each illustrating a different stage of a monarch butterfly, from an egg on a leaf to a growing caterpillar, to the stillness of the J hang, and the transformation and emergence into a butterfly. The artist behind the gorgeously detailed illustrations is Ainav. This is one of two projects we are collaborating on. The second one is a vibrant set of four notecards, one of which is featured at the top of this newsletter. You can see more of her work on Instagram @artbyainav.
I see these stages reflected in all of us at different points in life. The J hang, in particular, is one I’m in awe of. Stillness. There is so much power and transformation in stillness.
Letter writing is something I enjoy and hope to inspire more and more people to return to. In this fast-paced world of instant communication, it can become overwhelming very quickly. It’s both a blessing and a curse.
Letter writing slows us down. It brings us to the present. It fosters relationships in a meaningful way. AND it helps regulate the nervous system! Big bonus for me.
Thank you
If you love your Posa Journal or it has helped you in any way, big or small, please consider writing a line or two about your experience here: Testimonial. It would mean so much to me and will help me reach more people through this work.
“My Posa Journal is helping me to remember and focus on the positive things in my life. It’s helping me highlight God’s blessings in real time rather than dwelling on the negatives.” K-
Thank you, K, and thank you to each of you who have taken the time to share your experience. Please keep those testimonials coming!
